Aase Olive Aadland, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born in a beautiful small community in Straum-Brandsfjord, Norway, on March 26, 1937, to Alf and Aslaug Strom.

The family planned to immigrate to the United States in 1940, but five days before their scheduled departure, German soldiers invaded Norway. They lived under German occupation for five years during World War II. In 1947, Aase and her family finally immigrated to the United States and settled in Seattle. Although she didn’t know any English when she arrived in the US, she learned quickly in school. Aase graduated from Lincoln High School in 1956. She spent the following year in Norway, living with her grandfather on the family farm—a time she cherished deeply.

Upon returning to Seattle, Aase joined her older sister as a stewardess with Pacific Northern Airlines. Determined to meet the height requirement, she wore 3-inch heels on every flight. Aase loved to travel and took every opportunity to explore the world, from Europe to Asia and Mexico.

In 1966, Aase married Arne Aadland, and together they raised four daughters: Tina, Annalise, Julianne, and Kari. Aase’s family was the center of her world, and she poured her heart into caring for those she loved. A devoted homemaker, she built her life around her family; her home was filled with warmth, good conversation and delicious homemade food. Her baking was second to none, and she loved when family and friends stopped by for a cup of coffee and a homemade dessert.

Aase had many passions, including sewing, reading, gardening, and in her later years, working on puzzles. She also loved antiquing—especially finding hidden treasures for a great deal! Her Norwegian heritage was a source of great pride, and she cherished the traditions and values that shaped her early life. Aase was known for her authenticity, kindness, subtle sense of humor, and the way her beautiful smile would light up a room.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Arne Aadland, her parents, Alf and Aslaug Strom, and her sister, Oddny Johnston. Aase is survived by her daughters, Tina Monahan (Greg), Annalise Nye (Rick), Julianne Childs (Shawn), and Kari Kochar (Baj); her eight grandchildren—Nicholas, Bennett, and Lucy Monahan; Annika, Karsten, and Kaare Nye; Jackson and Payton Childs, her sister Karen Strom, brother-in-law Bob Johnston, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the Seattle area and in Norway.

Aase leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire her family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on November 8, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church of Richmond Beach, with a reception to follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Aase’s memory with a donation to a charity of your choice. One of Aase’s favorite causes was the Seattle Children’s Hospital Uncompensated Care Fund.
