Adam Schmidley loved the Lord, his God, with all his heart, with all his soul, with all his mind, and with all his strength. He yearned to live for Him and to listen for the voice of the Spirit. Adam loved to seek out the treasure of His Word and to live in obedience to God. Adam lived his life in such a way that when you met Adam, you knew that he sought to live a life that was pleasing to Jesus. He was a Christ-like leader in his home and in their family businesses. Adam was a godly husband, a godly father and a godly friend. For those of us who knew and loved Adam earthside, we are certain that he pleased the Lord and he is now in the presence of Jesus for all eternity.
Adam loved his family. Adam’s mom, Margie, said Adam knew Traci was “the one” as soon as he met her at Mississippi College in 2005. Adam and Traci were married in 2006 and soon began a true adventure, following the Will of the Lord and teaching others about Jesus, all while growing their own family. When Adam and Traci returned stateside after 7 years in China, their family had grown with the births of Isak and Kaleb, and Traci was pregnant with Zakary. It wasn’t long before Jakob wrapped up the initial brotherly brood as the baby Schmidley boy. With growing hearts and a growing home, Adam and Traci continued to add to their family with Trayvon and Malaya. Shortly after, Morgan and Brooklyn joined the crew, and finally, Cheyenne was added to the beautiful family. Adam truly believed that his and Traci’s children were a heritage from the Lord and he adored each of his children and valued their God-given gifts. He taught his children how to love the Lord. He loved being a husband, a father and a teacher. Adam leaves a legacy that will stand firm and strong in the faith while doing everything in love.
If you’ve met Adam Schmidley, you’ve encountered the love of God. Adam had a James 1:27 heart, a heart of pure and undefiled religion. He sought to care for orphans and widows and those who were vulnerable in each community where he and Traci lived throughout their nearly 20 years of marriage. Adam was a humble teacher and leader and showed others Jesus in the way he lived his life. He was an advocate for those who were in distress or in need. He never second-guessed or rationalized the voice of the Holy Spirit as it led him to care for others or to share the Gospel.
Adam is only preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Bill and Janet Walcutt of Arizona. However, he leaves so very many here to remember him and his lessons and to wait until the day we meet him again in Heaven: His wife and children of Coushatta, Traci Thomas Schmidley; sons, Isak, Kaleb, Zakary, Jakob, and Trayvon; daughters, Malaya, Brooklyn, Morgan, and Cheyenne; mother Margie Schmidley of Baton Rouge; brothers, Mike Schmidley (Kathy) of Ohio, and Eric Schmidley of Baton Rouge.
Adam was born on May 28, 1985 and passed away on October 30, 2025. A Celebration of a Life will be held Thursday, November 6 at 2:00 PM at Fairview Baptist Church in Coushatta, Louisiana. The family will be available from 1:00 PM until the start of the service. Rather than black, please wear warm colors in Adam’s memory.
