Alan Jeffrey "Buford" Armes, 73, of Acushnet, MA, passed away tragically and heroically on October 31, 2025. Though his life was cut short, Jeff lived every day with unmatched humor, grit, and heart. His spirit was larger than life, and the stories he leaves behind will be told for generations.

Born on January 14, 1952, to the late Betty "Honey" Schattenburg of Michigan, Jeff inherited his mother's warmth, strength, and quick wit. He was the devoted stepfather of Lindsey Desrosiers and her husband Greg Desrosiers, and the proud grandfather of Leo Alan Desrosiers, the lights of his life and his greatest joy.

Jeff was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Skrutski of Acushnet, and leaves behind three beloved sisters: Marguerite Cleland of Florida; Michelle Gilliam and her husband Mike of New York, and Sandra Armes of New Bedford. He adored and protected them fiercely, like the great brother he was. He is also survived by his former wife of 19 years, Cheri Armes of New Bedford, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and in-laws who will deeply miss his warmth, wit, and unwavering presence. His love for animals was returned by his loyal companions, Bo and Woodchip.

For more than 30 years, Jeff served the greater New Bedford area as a chimney sweep, owner and operator of Tootle Chimney Sweeps, Inc.— a trade he took great pride in, made memorable by his signature saying: "Don't make an ash of yourself, have your chimney cleaned!" His work ethic, humor, and craftsmanship will remain part of his enduring legacy.

Beyond his work, Jeff found freedom and brotherhood on two wheels. As a proud Tribesmen brother, he shared countless miles, laughs, and moments of true kinship with his fellow riders. Motorcycling wasn't just a pastime, it was a way of life that reflected his independent spirit.

When he wasn't on the road, Jeff loved relaxing with good friends over a cold beer, swapping stories, sparking laughter, and stirring up the occasional good-natured debate. Known for his boisterous personality and dry wit, he had a rare gift for connecting with people and making everyone feel like family.

Jeff was a friend, protector, and hero to many. His passing leaves a void that words can scarcely fill, but his legacy of kindness, loyalty, humor, and courage will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2025, from 1:00-5:00 PM at the American Legion on Hope Street in Acushnet, where friends and family are invited to share stories, raise a glass, and celebrate the life of a man who made the world brighter.

Ride free, Jeff. Your spirit and laughter will echo down every road you ever loved.
