Alma Zacur Jones

1933 - 2019

On Friday, April 5, 2019, Alma Zacur Jones passed away at the age of 86.

Alma was born on March 3, 1933 in Indiana, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of 10 children born to Nettie and George Zacur, who emigrated from Syria. She grew up in a busy household and worked part time in her father's candy store, The Indiana Candy Works.

Alma moved to California for work and the weather, traveling across country to become a teacher at the Montessori schools. She taught elementary school for many years until finally retiring from Redwood Christian Schools in 1999. Alma loved "her littles" and impacted many lives in a positive way.

A lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, Alma had an abiding love and faith in God.

She met and married her lifelong partner and love, Gordon Jones on August 19, 1960 in Berkeley, California. They made a home in San Leandro, California where they both taught (at different) elementary schools and raised their children.

Alma believed in tradition, loved family, enjoyed travel and adventure. She decorated and celebrated every holiday, celebrated birthdays with great joy and brought together the people she loved. Gordon and Alma traveled the United States in retirement and even prior to that, took their family many times to her favorite places, Hawaii and Disneyland.

Alma and Gordon moved to Carmichael in 2012 to be closer to family, living at Eskaton, Carmichael. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Gordon Jones, her beloved sister Barbara and brother Robert, treasured nieces and nephews, her daughter, Janice Jones Barrilleaux and husband Steve and son, Nevin Jones and wife Ruth.

Alma was loved. Her spirit and smile will be missed by all.
