Send Flowers Plant A Tree
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alma W. Roots, who departed this world in Martinez, California, on October 20, 2025. Born in Tacoma, Washington, on November 15, 1942, Alma was a beloved mother, friend, and patriot.

She is survived by her son, Mark Andrews, and daughter-in-law, Betsy, along with her daughter, Erika Hattenhauer, and son-in-law, Kjell Lovlien.

A talented painter, stained-glass artist, genealogist and paralegal, Alma's creativity influenced every endeavor she undertook. She will always be fondly remembered as the "best juice maker" by her children. This cherished inside joke reflected her ability to bring joy and connection to her family during simple moments spent together as they grew up.

Alma was a patriot, dedicating her time to her local DAR chapters and other service organizations. One of her proudest accomplishments was helping the V.A. coordinate The Moving Wall exhibition, the half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, during its visit to Chico, CA in June 2025. She also took immense pride in being a poll worker on Election Day.

Her love for animals was unwavering, particularly for her beloved dogs. In honor of her memory, donations may be made to any local SPCA or Speranza Animal Rescue, both are organizations that Alma held dear.

A true adventurer, Alma was not only a loving mother but also an enthusiastic travel companion. She explored the world on yearly trips to Italy for over a decade and made a memorable visit to Victoria, British Columbia, earlier this year. Alma embraced the outdoors, enjoying kayaking, hiking, playing tennis, and fully savoring life’s adventures.

A mother is forever—her love, laughter, and quiet strength endure long after she is gone. Alma’s light will never fade, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, creativity, and dedication to her family, friends, and community.
