It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Anica Anuska Guiboux (nee Pazevic) on October 9th, 2025 at the age of 90. She was born in Belgrade, Serbia (formerly Yugoslavia) on September 27th, 1935 to Blagorodna and Jovan Pazevic and grew up with her two brothers under difficult but loving conditions during World War 2 and then under the communist regime that followed.

In 1959 at the age of 23 she moved to Paris hoping to eventually emigrate to the United States. There while working as a lunch counter girl at the Hotel Lutetia, she met a handsome young French chef who became the love of her life. Anica and Jean Robert Guiboux were married on March 4, 1961 in a small ceremony at St Germain-de-Pres Church.

In 1964 with their 3-year-old son, Alain, in tow, they boarded the Queen Elizabeth and sailed to the United States to join her family by settling in Detroit. With almost nothing to their names, they eventually found their way to restaurant ownership after buying Mama and Daddy’s Coney Island in Greektown with Anica’s parents.

In 1970, they moved to their forever home on Yale in St. Clair Shores where they raised their two sons and created many fond memories of joyous family gatherings. Following a few career stops along the way, they eventually opened Chez Robert restaurant just a few blocks from their home. It was there that Anica (Ann to her friends) was truly in her element. A social person by nature, she was a natural hostess sitting and chatting with customers over coffee while making lifelong friends and enhancing the charm of the place. Although the restaurant kept her busy, she always found time for her garden and flowers and more importantly for baking cookies and cakes for her family and friends.

But Anica’s true passion and calling was her love of her family. As she often said, she lived for them—they were her reason for being. Becoming a grandmother was the highlight of her life and where she shined. She and Robert would never say no to babysitting or a sleepover. They would be there at the drop of a hat always with a freshly made box of her delicious oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Cartoons, bacon and candy were plentiful and freely given along with hugs and kisses. True to form, even as her breathing became more difficult near the end, she used what little energy she had left to tell us all how much she loved us.

Anica is survived and will be dearly missed by her loving husband of 64 years Jean Robert; her two sons Alain (Karen) and Jean-Paul (Karen); her 6 grandsons Christian (Alexandra), Brett (Kristen), Jack (Kaitlyn), Trevor, Christopher and Luke; her brothers Anastas (Bosiljka) and Nikola( Barbara) Pazevic as well numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be at Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home 25800 Harper Avenue in St.Clair Shores on Thursday October 16th from 2pm to 8pm.

Funeral service will be at St. Lazarus Serbian Orthodox Church in Detroit on Friday October 17th at 9:00am with internment to follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township.
