Ann Elizabeth Haegele (née Rowell), 90, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, in Indian Trail, North Carolina. Born on February 14, 1935, in London, England, Ann's life was filled with love, devotion, and unwavering faith.

Ann spent most of her childhood in Cambridge, England. During World War II, while her father served in Africa, she lived with her mother Bessie and sister Jean in the village of Newnham. There, they shared a home with her beloved grandparents, Fred and Maude Fordham. Ann formed a deep bond with her Granny and Grandad Fordham—an early foundation for the warmth and closeness she would later share with her own family.

In 1954, fate brought Ann together with the love of her life, Bob Haegele, at a dance in Cambridge. Bob was stationed nearby with the U.S. Air Force. Their connection was immediate and enduring. The couple married and moved to the United States in 1955, settling first in Clayton, New Jersey before making their home in Pitman in 1961. In 2002, they relocated to Lake Park, North Carolina. Ann and Bob shared an extraordinary 71 years of marriage—a testament to their enduring love and partnership.

Ann dedicated much of her life to nurturing young minds and hearts. For 35 years, she ran the nursery at Pitman United Methodist Church in New Jersey, where she was also a devoted member from 1960 until 2002. After moving to North Carolina, she became an active member of Matthews United Methodist Church. She found joy in Sunday School and fellowship through the SAGES group (Seniors Aging Gracefully with Enthusiasm and Spirituality) in Lake Park.

A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Ann cherished every moment spent with her family. She is deeply missed by her husband Bob; her children Kim Powell (Sam), Jill Haegele (Geri), and Ford Haegele (Ali); her grandchildren Beth Perseghetti (Tim), Brittney Powell (Adam Nelson), Parker Haegele, and Casey Haegele; and her great-grandchildren Miles Perseghetti, Crosby Perseghetti, and Declan Powell Edmunds. She also held a special place in her heart for her sister-in-law Helen Bell—whom she considered a sister—and her dear friend Dot Smith of Matthews, NC.

Ann was predeceased by her grandson and dance partner, Matthew Powell.

She had a gift for making those around her feel special—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—for whom she always made time and baked favorite treats with love.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at Matthews United Methodist Church when her husband is well enough to attend.

Ann's legacy of kindness, devotion to faith and family, and joyful spirit will continue to inspire all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort and peace to those whose lives she touched.
