Annemarie "Freidel" Bridges, 92 , who lived in Gales Ferry, Connecticut, died on September 11, 2025 from a long illness at home. Her's was a life full of accomplishments and she was a woman before her time.
She was born one August 21, 1933 in Bad Hersfeld, Germany. She grew up in the restaurant business. Her life in Germany saw the end of WWII and participation as a German National Champion team member. She even won a medal in the German Championships as a hurdler. No small feat for a person of her stature 5' 2". At twenty-one when she married an American soldier who was the father of her children and eventually moved to Connecticut.
In a life spanning many decades she wore many hats. She was first in advertisement and later published her own magazine called "Here's to Friends". The magazine was a way for single people to find each other. For sixteen dollars you could write a personal ad and for two dollars someone could respond to that ad, by mailing a letter to "Friends Of course this was before dating apps were a thing. She would organize single dances and was radio announcer of her own show about being single. She wrote a German cook book, which were recipes from the family restaurant of her childhood. Writing was one of her passions and she would write to the opinion section of the newspaper with titles like "Why do we always talk about teenage girls being pregnant, it takes two to make a baby."
She leaves behind her three children Evelyn, Susan, Nelson and three grandchildren. As well as her partner of twenty-seven years, David.
