Arturo Benjamin Castle

1951 - 2025

Arturo "Artie" "Ollie" "Silverheels" "Art" Benjamin Castle, 74 of Lothian, MD, set off on his next adventure the afternoon of May 5th, 2025, at home surrounded by his family, succumbing to the effects of kidney disease. A celebration of his life will be held on October 11th, 2025.

Ollie was born February 24, 1951, to Everett Benjamin Castle and Violet Frost, née Cash, in Cheverly, MD. He graduated from Walt Whitman Senior High School, Bethesda, MD, in 1970. After which, he traveled the country for some time, visiting all corners of the land. He then worked for his parents' company for several years until that business venture folded. Ollie then worked for Duron Paints in their retail stores and eventually moved to their factory in Beltsville, MD, where he held different positions. One notable role was Ollie's time in the maintenance department, where he constructed an ironwork staircase which was a source of pride.

After Duron's acquisition by Sherwin-Williams, Art found employment with Target in Bowie, MD, where he worked until his retirement, just prior to the pandemic. In his retirement, he found pleasure in his hobbies of blacksmithing, welding, and various projects around his beloved home, as well as some traveling around the country over the past several years. Art discovered a real community volunteering for the Humane Society of Calvert County, where he walked dogs weekly and helped at adoption events right up until the effects of his illness became too great. A passionate herbalist and avid TV watcher, much of his free time was spent indulging in both activities, even in his final days."

Artie is preceded in death by his younger sister Angela Castle, parents, and father-in-law, Erv Brown. Ollie is survived by his wife, Joan Brown Castle, and sons Adam and Daniel. As well as his elder sister, Margaret "Margie" Lawson, and other extended family and friends who will never forget him.

"Ollie Silverheels" will be remembered for many things, but his sense of humor and uniqueness will be chief among them. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Art's name to the Humane Society of Calvert County. The memorial will be held in Pavilion 4 at Dunkirk District Park. A formal service will be held at 1 PM, with the rest of the day, from 11 AM to 5PM, open for people to drop in and pay their respects. Visitors are encouraged to wear purple or tie-dye in honor of Ollie.
