August “Auggie” Aeoth Emrys Zitting was born on June 16, 2023, at Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. With determined strength, he faced the world despite weak lungs and a heart condition. On September 28, 2025, while returning home from a family vacation, August passed in Ontario, Oregon, surrounded by his family.
He was the beloved son of John and Sarah Zitting, and also deeply cherished by his bonus mother, Maggie Zitting. He is survived by his siblings: Zolti, Kent, Elizabeth, Emma, Parker, Rhea, Larelda, John (“Jack-Jack”), Phoenix, and his twin sister, Attileight — with whom he shared a unique and spiritual bond even before birth.
August was known as an “old soul” wise beyond his years, strong in his boundaries, yet gentle in his presence. His father often lovingly referred to him as his “old man.” And his mother would call him "my sweets" because of his sweet and gentle nature. And also, because it was a blessing and a treat just being in his presence.
He loved his snuggles. All who knew him remember his deep and warm snuggles.
He would snuggle in just so, so that you felt his pure love wash over you. Even when he was glaring at people and upset about something he still did it in a way that conveyed pure love. Through his many hospital stays he had many roommates at the ICU. And all commented on what an inspiration Auggie was. He set off a tsunami sized ripple of love in this world.
He had a knowing grin that seemed to say, “Yes, I understand,” and a deep intelligence that touched everyone he encountered. He lived and passed on his own terms, leaving behind a legacy of love and quiet strength.
He is preceded in death by his aunt, Susan, and his grandfather, Marvin Zitting.
A joyous celebration of August’s life will be held at Philip Gates Memorial Park, 14359 South Royal Coachman Drive, Bluffdale, UT 84065. All who feel inspired to join are welcome. Guests are asked to dress in nice casual attire, this gathering is meant to be a celebration, not a funeral.
In the words of a poem written in his memory:
We asked for a miracle,
And were given you.
Your stay was short,
But your love was true.
Though heaven holds you now,
We hold you still - in every silent breath and warm breeze blowing gently through hills.
Though his time was brief, August’s spirit left an everlasting imprint on his family and all who knew him. His life was a gift, and his memory will continue to be cherished with joy and gratitude.
