Bacilia "Betsy" Alvarado, born Bacilia Salas on May 24, 1953, in Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on August 13, 2025, in her hometown of Austin at the age of 72.
Betsy was a lifelong resident of Austin, where she built a life rooted in family and tradition. She was known for her love of cooking—especially good food that brought people together—and for her skillful sewing. Whether preparing a meal or stitching clothing with care, Betsy expressed her creativity and warmth through everything she did. She also enjoyed fishing, finding peace and joy in the quiet moments spent by the water.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Rosemary Alvarado (Jesse); sons, Hiladgo Alvarado Jr. (Crystal) and Christopher Alvarado (Valarie); and her siblings: Janie Selvera, Julie Aleman (Danny), Gloria Salas-Musgrove (recently passed), Guadalupe Castro, and Ricardo Salas. Betsy’s legacy continues through her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who were touched by her presence.
Betsy was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Elijio and Victoria Salas; her daughter Lisa Alvarado; grandson Gabriel Villarreal; sisters Concepcion Martinez, Consuelo Mier, and Esperanza Davila; and brothers Arturo Salas, Jessie Salas, Elijio Salas Jr., Reynaldo Salas, Paul Salas, Frank Davila, Fernando Davila, and Victor Rivera.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. May her life be celebrated with gratitude and may her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 21, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Abundant Life Fellowship 7801 N Lamar Blvd. Suite E 200
