Barbara Elyse Cline, age 80, of Knoxville, Tennessee, left this earth peacefully on October 4, 2025. Born March 26, 1945 to Paul and Aimee Losse, Barbara's life was shaped fundamentally by her abiding curiosity, a quality she shared with the love of her life, Jennings Evans Cline. They met at the beginning of their senior year at Tulane University and were married six months after graduating. Barbara and Jennings had two daughters, Lisa and Gabrielle, and built a beautiful life centered around family, shared intellectual interests, hard work, and a love of nature, travel, and the arts. They enjoyed endless silly and nerdy inside jokes and laughed a lot.

A brilliant and voracious mind, Barbara cultivated lifelong interests in science, history, the arts, and languages. After earning her first bachelor's degree in Political Science, she completed a second degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Tennessee and worked as a computer programmer until she retired in 2015.

Barbara found her spiritual home at Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was an active member for 35 years. She was the longest serving member of the Chancel Choir and enjoyed the Flower Guild for many years. Barbara's love of singing led to longstanding participation in the Knoxville Choral Society. She even persuaded Jennings to take voice lessons which allowed them to share the joy of singing together.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Jennings Cline, her parents, Paul and Aimee Losse, and her father- and mother-in-law Charles and Beth Cline. She is survived by her daughters Lisa Cline (Dan Langan) of Jericho, VT and Gabrielle Cline-Snell (Jeff Snell) of Knoxville, TN; granddaughter Faith Cline of Knoxville; great-granddaughter Arianna of Johnson City, TN; brother Bill Losse (Helen) of Winston-Salem, NC; brothers- and sisters-in-law David and Charleen Read and Sherman and Becky Cline; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, TN, on Saturday, November 22nd at 1:00 p.m. Dr. Richard Coble and Rev. Gradye Parsons will officiate, the Chancel Choir will perform, and the Flower Guild will provide flowers. The family will receive friends following the Celebration Service. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to: Volunteer Ministry Center, 511 N Broadway, Knoxville, TN, or to: Westminster Presbyterian Church, 6500 Northshore Drive, Knoxville, TN. 37919, or to: Knoxville Habitat for Humanity, P.O.
