Barbara Wressell Henshaw, beloved wife, mother, grandmother ("Oma") and friend, passed away peacefully on October 8th at the age of 78. A longtime resident of University City in San Diego, CA, she dedicated her life to her family and her community.
Barbara was born on May 6, 1947, in Saginaw, Michigan and was known for her kindness, generosity, and tireless energy. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1965 and was active in organizing class reunions. After a 17-year rainy and wet stop in Seattle, she moved to San Diego where she loved the beach, skiing, sailing, and enjoying the California sun. Barbara was deeply involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, serving for many years with the PTA, Grad Night and at school events. She also gave her time and talents to the Girls Scouts and University City Community Association, where her commitment left a lasting impact.
She will be remembered for her warmth, smile, her ability to bring people together, and her devotion to her family. Barbara is survived by her husband of 59 years, Philip Henshaw; her children Michael and his wife Kimberly, and Mark and his wife Rebecca; grandchildren Amber and Cade; and brothers Robert Wressell and Charles Wressell. She was preceded in death by her parents, Verna and Leo Wressell, and siblings Richard Wressell, Sandra Kanary, and Patricia Maul.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the Apreva hospice team and caregivers at Autumn Villas in University City who provided compassionate support during her final days.
While no funeral service will be held, those who wish to honor Barbara may consider a donation to Alzheimer's San Diego or the National MS Foundation.
