Barbara peacefully returned to her Heavenly Father on Monday October 13th surrounded by her loving family.
Barbara was born on August 24th, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY to Joseph and Arline (Alese) Asaro. She was raised in Brooklyn New York in a traditional Italian family with a strong faith in Christ. Her family owned a Brownstone where Barbara and her sister Joyce enjoyed a childhood with extended family within the same building. Her parents eventually moved to South Ozone Park, Queens in New York before settling in Hicksville, New York on Long Island where both Barbara and her sister graduated from high school.
She started her career as a bookkeeper at Sears. She went on to join her husband's Goodyear Tire business. After leaving her home of many years in East Northport, NY she moved to Apopka, FL where she entered the banking industry to eventually retire as a Customer Service Representative and Top Loan Officer at Bank of America.
She did many charitable works; among them creating a Christmas Collection for Homeless Families through the Bank of America Apopka branch. This program touched many families over the years. Because of her efforts she was recognized by the Children and Family Service League of Orlando for her work.
Her vibrance and sense of humor filled every room. She was warm and affectionate with an endless capacity to do for others. Barbara instilled a strong work ethic, compassion and a sense of duty in her family. She often said "You should leave this world a better place because you were in it".
Barbara cherished her friendships, having gathered them over her entire life. She loved spending time with her friends at the pool and Friday night "ladies night" dinner outings. She was a loyal friend who often opened up her house to others, allowing many friends and relatives the opportunity to live with her when they moved to the central Florida area in search of a new home nearby.
She was devoted above all to her family: married on January 24, 1959 to her husband of 66 years, Thomas (Pat); children Joyce-Ann Cogan (Adam), Linda Dillon (Christopher), and Joseph Klein (Rebecca); and grandchildren Jessica and John Cogan, Rachel and Andrew (Jenna)Klein, Thomas and Connor Dillon and great grandchildren Landon Eugene, Michael Cogan, Serenity Cogan.
She is also survived by her sister Joyce Guercio; and her children Frank, Lisa, James, Andrew and Roy.
