Send Flowers Plant A Tree
Barbara Ann McClain Nies Todd, 84, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2025, at Chatham Glen Healthcare & Rehabilitation in The Villages, Florida. Born in Nashville, Arkansas, in 1940, Barbara grew up in Hampton, Virginia, and graduated from Hampton High School in 1959.

She dedicated her entire career to civil service as an accountant for the Department of the Army at Fort Monroe, retiring in 1997. Following retirement, she became a Master Gardener and later moved to The Villages, where she embraced the many activities and friendships that community life offered.

Barbara was an adventurer at heart. She loved volunteering, camping, and motorcycling — riding coast to coast twice, and even into Canada. A passionate traveler, she cruised the world, walking the Great Wall of China, roaming St. Petersburg Square, shopping the fine boutiques of London and Paris, sailing the Mediterranean Sea, and relaxing on the beach in St. Thomas as planes landed overhead. She was always seeking the unique and the extraordinary in every experience.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mother, Emily G. Todd McClain Lepper, and her father, Robert Bright McClain. She is survived by her devoted life partner of 32 years, Wes Easley of The Villages; her daughter, Deborah Mitchell of San Diego, California; her son, Scott Nies of Jacksonville, Florida; three grandchildren, Travis Jones, Noel Harris, and Percy Jones III; and two great-grandchildren, Avalon Jones and Scarlett Harris.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to your local SPCA, in honor of Barbara’s lifelong love of animals.

Her journey now continues beyond the horizon — may the road rise to meet her and the wind always be at her back. She lived fully, loved deeply, and left the world brighter than she found it. Her laughter, kindness, and adventurous spirit will forever bloom in the hearts of those who loved her. Though she has left this world, her light and love will guide us always. She loved deeply, traveled widely, and cared for every living creature along her path.
