Barbara Nurnberg

Barbara Nurnberg [Lesnak], returned to the Lord on Tuesday October 14th, 2025 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, and into the loving arms of her husband and son.

Babs was born November 4,1952 in Waukegan, Illinois to Frank and Theresa Lesnak. She attended Mother of God School and graduated from Carmel High School in 1970.

Barb received her Nursing Diploma from Evanston Hospital School of Nursing in 1973. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Alan Nurnberg, and they married November 16th, 1974 and enjoyed a wonderful 40 years of marriage together. Together they raised 4 children, Melissa, Christy, Keith, and Kimmy in McHenry, Illinois.

Barb worked at Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry, Illinois for over 35 years, serving the community as an emergency room nurse. She is remembered fondly by all those she worked with over the years. Before retirement, Barb worked as an EMS educator for McHenry County where she shared her knowledge and expertise with the paramedics and fire departments across the county. Throughout her career, she formed lasting friendships with countless staff at NIMC and the surrounding fire departments.

Barb felt becoming a grandma was God's greatest gift. She was blessed with 8 grandsons and 2 great grandsons. Anyone who knew Barb knew her grandchildren meant the world to her.

Barb will be forever missed by her daughters, Christy Hamman and Kimmy Ostrowski, her sons-in-law Nate Hamman and Jake Ostrowski, her grandsons Andrew (Emily) Tesmer, Timothy (Tara Schuessler) Tesmer, Benjamin Tesmer, Hector Hamman, Charles, Michael, and Joseph Ostrowski, her great grandsons Henry and Nicholas, her dear cousins Rita White, Marge Drasler, BeeDee Drasler, Judy Moll, Kari Moll, her sisters-in- law Judy (Clem) Wirfs and Bonnie (Bud) Grosos, her nieces and nephews, and countless friends that meant so much to her.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Al, son Keith, parents Frank and Theresa, and her in-laws Cliff and Ann Nurnberg.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Mr. Bob's Under the Bridge, a charity that meant so much to Barb.

The family would like to say thank you to Father Paul White for his support during this time, and all the staff and providers that cared for Barb in the CVICU.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 15th, at 10:00 am at the Church of Holy Apostles in McHenry, Illinois. A celebration of her life will follow.
