On Friday, August 1, 2025, in Sacramento CA, Bernadine Joan Walsh passed away in hospice at her niece's home after a long illness. She was 96 1/2 years old.

Bernie was born January 31, 1929 as the sixth of eight sisters in Gresham, NE. Bernie, who never married or had children, was a devout Catholic who traveled the world working in civil service for the federal government, including the Air Force, Army and Navy. During her service, she spent time in foreign countries including Vietnam, Japan (a favorite) and South Korea. She loved learning about different cultures and also visited Italy and Ireland, where she kissed the Blarney Stone. After the Air Force cancelled the B-1A bomber project, Bernie retired and moved to Sacramento, CA and started a second career with the school district. Extremely generous, she volunteered her time, talent and money to many worthy causes, took care of two ailing sisters, and purchased a home in Lincoln for her parents to live out their lives.

Bernie was preceded in death by parents Ralph and Teresa Walsh and her seven sisters, Valerian (Bonnie), Margaret, Julia (Judy), LaVerne, Elizabeth (Betty, Evelyn and Teresa (Darlene). She is survived by 22 nieces and nephews, all of whom have wonderful stories about Aunt Bernie and her generous, fun and interesting nature.

A small, private graveside service was held on August 18th at the All Souls Catholic Cemetery in Vallejo, CA, where Bernie is buried close to family. Bernie will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but fond memories and love will live on. She will be welcomed by loving family and friends at the Pearly Gates - Godspeed Bernie!
