Billie Jean White Watley, of Ragland, Alabama, passed away on October 5, 2025, at the age of 95. Born on May 15, 1930, to Inez and Earnest White, she was the eldest of five siblings.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Selton Watley; daughter, Corey Watley Crowe; sons-in-law, Kenneth Crowe and Dwight Blair; sisters, Betty Muncher and Linda Bell; and brother, Donald White.
She is survived by her daughters, Paula Watley Blair and Marty Watley; sister, Janice Wadsworth; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; Tim the Cat; family friend Thelma Sewell; and many more beloved family and friends.
Affectionately known to many as “Nee Nean,” she was one of Ragland’s most well-known “grandparents.” With the highest rope swing in town and an endless supply of Jell-O, her door was always open to Ragland’s youth. Nee Nean had a passion for teaching and nurturing; she loved to read, sing, recite nursery rhymes, and teach the art of tying one’s shoes.
She also had a unique love for plants and flowers. Her home was full of colorful gardens, fountains, and fish ponds thriving with water lilies and dozens of vibrant koi.
Billie Jean was a stickler for etiquette—Emily Post was a mandatory read in the household. Table manners, crisp clothing, and perfect posture will no doubt trickle down for generations.
She was a proud member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving alongside her granddaughter, Madison. Billie Jean worked as an educational paraprofessional and school bus driver. She cherished her time at the school and occasionally snuck her grandchildren into the staff room for special treats.
The family will be holding a private service in honor of her life. Expressions of remembrance may be sent to 920 Mountain View Drive, Odenville, AL 35120.
