It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Brooke Wesley Bethel, a cherished son, brother, and friend, who passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
Born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Brooke was a proud graduate of Columbus Academy (Class of 1981). He continued his education at Dartmouth College, where he earned his Bachelor of Science, and later received his Master of Arts from Bowling Green State University.
Brooke had an infectious enthusiasm for life, centered around his passions and his community. He was a dedicated and beloved figure in the local Columbus soccer scene. His favorite professional teams were Bayern Munich and his hometown Columbus Crew, and he found great joy in attending Crew matches, often using the time to catch up with friends.
Professionally, Brooke recently spent his time working at The Book Loft, where his love for reading connected him with both colleagues and patrons. But more than his love for books, Brooke will be remembered as the "ultimate illuminator." He had a rare gift for making everyone feel seen, acknowledging their presence, and effortlessly finding the best in everyone he met. His warmth and genuine interest in others created a light that touched countless lives.
Brooke was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Raymond Bethel, his mother, Juanita (Nita) Hutch Bethel, and his brother, Dr. Bradley Bethel. He will be profoundly missed by his sisters, Blythe Bethel (Rick Frampton) and Blair Bethel (Joe Buckley), as well as his nieces and nephews, Abby, Bryn, Sam, and Max, and a wide circle of friends and former colleagues.
Brooke's enduring spirit, his passion for soccer, and his singular talent for bringing light and positive energy to every room he entered will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 8th at 4 pm at Valters (976 South High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43206).
