Byron "Frog" Charles Schulingkamp

1946 - 2025

Byron "Frog" Charles Schulingkamp, 79, passed away on October 17, 2025.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 25, 1946, Byron lived a full life marked by love, hard work, love of country and, most importantly, his faith and trust in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He retired from Exxon Refinery in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and at the age of 55 began a second career as a commercial pilot, establishing Kwik Transport, Inc. and proudly serving as a long-time member and former president of the Experimental Aviation Association- EAA Chapter 244. In his compassion and service to others, he flew "Angel Flights", providing free flights for patients who could not afford to travel long distances for medical care.

Byron was known for that joyful smile in his eyes, his warm heart, steadfast loyalty, helpful nature, and gift of conversation—never meeting a stranger and always ready with a story. Many of those stories were about his greatest blessings-his daughters and their families—whom he was so proud of and loved spending time with. He also shared many cherished years with his wife, Tanya, whose presence was an important part of his life.

One of his greatest joys was living peacefully at his cherished camp on the Bogue Chitto River, which he proudly and meticulously built with his own hands—a place of legacy for generations to gather. He began each morning on the porch, sipping coffee and reading his devotions while listening to praise and worship music, grateful for the simple beauty of the world God provides.

Faith was at the heart of all he did. He rarely missed a Sunday morning to worship and fellowship with his church family, whom he deeply loved and who loved him in return.

Byron is survived by his loving wife, Tanya Hernandez Schulingkamp; beloved daughters Shara Frazier (Flynn Chauvin), Lauren (Glenn) Gambino, and Trudi (Jeremy) Daigle; stepdaughters Deana and April Marler; grandchildren Kelsey (Billy) Wiesler, Tanner (Caroline) Frazier and Layne Frazier, Addison Wainwright, Justin and Callie Daigle; and great-grandchildren Violet and Miles Wiesler, and Isaac and Avery Frazier. He is also survived by brothers David Schulingkamp and Jim (Bobbie) Schulingkamp, sister Rebecca (Curt) Underwood, and numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Robert and Miriam Lashley Schulingkamp.
