Caleb Benjamin Copeland, born November 27, 1984 in Rolla, MO, passed away surrounded by love on October 31, 2025 in Washington, DC. He was an outspoken and stalwart advocate for human rights and progressive causes, a knowledgeable lover of film and music and known for throwing some of the most epic and fabulous themed parties. Most importantly, he was an incredibly loving son, caring brother, dedicated uncle and loyal friend. Caleb's community from across the country celebrate his remarkable life and generosity of spirit.
When you had Caleb in your life, you had him forever. He was a dedicated friend to so many and known for his incredible kindness and thoughtful nature. "Uncle K K" was especially devoted to his nephews and nieces back in Missouri whom he loved so dearly.
After graduating from Missouri State University in 2007, Caleb pursued his passion for working in media and marketing and found a loyal crowd of like-minded friends while working at the Moxie Cinema. Caleb realized his dream of moving to Washington, DC in 2013 and quickly built another large community of people who loved him. You would often see Caleb out with friends during concerts at the Anthem and 930 Club or enjoying the latest art house films at E Street Cinema.
For the past 8 years, Caleb was an exceptionally talented deputy director of paid & social media and dedicated teammate at Union Plus. Here he was able to put his strong support of unions and union members to work advocating for them online as well as in his office as an integral part of the contract negotiating team representing OPEIU, Local 2. His expertise and passion positively affected every facet of Union Plus, but his greatest impact was on his colleagues who immensely appreciated his humor, thoughtfulness, mentorship and fun-loving nature. And, just like everywhere else in Caleb's life, many of these colleagues became close friends.
Caleb is survived by his mom Debi Baker (Jerry) of Marionville, MO, dad Bill Copeland (Kathy) of Ozark, MO, sister Rebekah Anderson (Russell), brother Zach Copeland (Elizabeth), sister-in-law Kristen Wilson, nephews Jeremy and Nathaneal, nieces Makenna, Madelyn and Addy and many adoring friends.
A memorial service will be held on November 13, 2025 at 11am at the First Baptist Church in Clever, MO and a celebration of life will also be held in Washington, DC at a later date.
Rest in Peace with the Angels, dear Caleb. You are loved and will be eternally missed.
