Calvin Granville Craib passed away on October 7, 2025, at UVA Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. He was 71.

Calvin was the son of the late Roderick and Stephanie (Hicks) Craib. Born in Troy, NY, he grew up in Kendall Park, NJ, and graduated from South Brunswick High School before earning his bachelor's degree at the University of New Hampshire and his master's from Columbia Business School.

As the middle child, Calvin spent much of his childhood looking up to his older brother, Rory, both literally and metaphorically, and first looking out for, then living vicariously through, his younger brother, Bill.

After earning his master's degree, Calvin spent the majority of the next 30 years working in the cable television industry, holding various executive positions with Time-Warner, Douglas, Tribune, and Mediacom cable companies. He made great friends along the way and left each job with friendships that remained with him for the rest of his life. In 2012, Calvin retired to pursue his passions of spending time with family and friends, enjoying good wine and good food, gardening, spoiling his cats, traveling, and attempting to improve his golf game -many of those activities carried out at the same time.

After spending most of his life in New Jersey and New York, Calvin settled in Virginia in 2022 to be closer to his son, his “favorite daughter-in-law,” and friends. He easily settled into the warmer weather and enjoyed spending time at the Culpeper Country Club, taking overnight trips to Washington, DC, and attempting to figure out the best means of transportation to visit his family in New England. (The latter was an ongoing project.)

Calvin especially enjoyed traveling with his son, Colin. They often packed up their golf bags to play courses around the world, including a bucket-list trip to play the famed St. Andrews in Scotland. Just last year, to celebrate Calvin's 70th birthday, they flew to France by way of Abu Dhabi in order to experience a luxury apartment in an airplane before touring the Rhone region of France. Calvin then went on to enjoy another week and a half of sampling Italy’s finest wines and food.

Calvin is survived by his son, Colin Craib, and his wife, Sierra Alewine, of Washington, DC; brother Rory Craib and wife Luci of Walpole, ME, and Williston, VT; and brother Bill Craib and wife Elizabeth of Hartland, VT. He is also survived by his nephew, Alistair Craib; his niece, Dorothy Wright and husband Carter; and her children, Stephanie, Harrison, and Margaret Wright; and many cousins and their families in New York State.

A private memorial will be held for Calvin at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Culpeper Humane Society and MADison Community Cats.

The family wishes to thank the staff of UVA for their incredible care, support, and friendship.
