Carolyn Kay Huffman Withers

85 years young, of Mount Airy, North Carolina
Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
Born in Mount Airy, N.C., on August 18, 1940, at Northern Surry Hospital, she was the daughter of Mr. Robert Clarence Huffman and Mrs. Shirley McCraw Huffman of Cana, Va.
Following the untimely passing of her mother in 1945, young Carolyn went to live with her aunt and uncle, Mr. George and Mrs. Juanita McCraw Jones, of Mount Airy, N.C.
Affectionately known as Kay, she graduated from Mount Airy Senior High School in 1958. She married William Franklin Withers, also of Mount Airy, in 1962, while attending The Martin Memorial School of Nursing, where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse the same year.
After a decade of devoted service as a psychiatric nurse, Kay continued her education and received her Nurse Practitioner certification in Family Medicine from Western Carolina University in 1982. Throughout her career, she practiced in several North Carolina communities, including Mocksville, St. Pauls, and Hamlet. Nursing was not just her profession but her true calling—she found deep joy and purpose in caring for others.
In her later years, Kay resided at Clemmons West Assisted Living in Clemmons, N.C., where she enjoyed the company of family and friends, long phone conversations, playing Mahjong, Solitaire, and Bingo, and of course, enjoying an ice-cold Diet Pepsi.
A lover of nature, she was never far from her beloved Blue Ridge Mountains. Kay also had a lifelong affection for animals and shared her home with many loyal canine and feline companions, each one receiving her kindness, treats, and gentle affection.
We will dearly miss her warm heart, her wise words, and her "See to See" outlook on life.
Hers was a life of service and compassion. She was always ready to help, to heal, and to open her home and heart to others. Even in her final chapter, she continued to share her nursing wisdom with those around her, leaving behind a legacy of care and grace.
