Charles Joseph Blumer
Loving Husband, Father, and Grandfather
Charles Joseph Blumer, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 21, 2025 at the age of 89.
Charles was born on December 3, 1935 in Los Angeles, California, and graduated from Loyola High School in 1954. He went on to serve his country for four years after being drafted into the U.S. Army. Following his service, he began a long and dedicated 42-year career with the phone company, where he formed many lasting friendships—including the one that would lead him to meet the love of his life, Hellen, his wife of 52 years.
Together, they raised two daughters, Kristi Pradelt (Chuck Pradelt) and Katie Starr (William Starr), and were later blessed with four cherished grandchildren: Carter and Charli Pradelt, and Megan and Brooklyn Starr. Charles once said his favorite "job" was being a grandfather — a role he embraced wholeheartedly.
In his younger years, Charles enjoyed bowling, hunting, camping, and water skiing. He was an avid sports fan and could often be found watching games on television. He loved spending time with his family, supervising their many projects, and sharing his wisdom and humor.
Charles had a lifelong love of horses and dreamed of being a cowboy. In 1980 Charles moved his family to Auburn, California to own horses and property. He never missed a good western and had a true appreciation for See's Candy—he could name every flavor— a skill he proudly passed on to his family.
A faithful Catholic, Charles rarely missed Mass and lived his life guided by his faith, integrity, and love for others. Charles was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Cox; sister, Mary Shaeffer; and brother, James Blumer. He is survived by his wife Hellen, his daughters, son-in-laws, his beloved grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him dearly. His final resting place will be in the columbarium at the Calvary Cemetery and Funeral Center in Citrus Heights, California.
Charles will be remembered for his warmth, his wit, and the deep love he had for his family. His steady presence, laughter, hard work, and devotion will continue to live on in all who knew and loved him.
