Charles "Alan" Bobo passed away on August 15, 2025, at the age of 79, from a Gal Stone causing pancreatitis.
He is survived by his partner, Jennifer; his children, Emily, Morgan, and Alexander; their mother, Barbara; and his beloved grandchildren: Ava Reiser, Phoebe Reiser, Tristan Bobo, Devyn Bobo, Katy Bobo, Chloe Bobo, Dylan Bobo, and Zoe Bobo and his affable pup "Hunty"
Charles "Alan" Bobo was born on December 12, 1945, in Springfield, Ohio, to Elbert and Mildred Bobo. An only child, Alan grew up in New Carlisle, Ohio, and graduated from Tecumseh High School. He went on to study History at Ohio Northern University, where he met Barbara, who would become his wife in 1969.
Alan served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War as a camera technician. He was honorably discharged in 1970. Shortly after returning home, he and Barbara started a family, raising four children: Christopher, Emily, Morgan, and Alexander.
Alan began his career at Security National Bank (now Park National Bank), where he worked for nearly 35 years. Over the course of his long tenure, he served as a loan officer in several locations across western Ohio—including Enon, Park Layne, and New Carlisle. In addition to his professional career, he supported the family's soap business, Woodspirits, often spending weekends making large batches of handmade soap.
After retiring in 2005, Alan embraced a life of travel and nature, splitting his time between two of his favorite places: summers on the Bruce Peninsula in Ontario, Canada ("Home Port") and winters in Why, Arizona, in the Sonoran Desert ("Casa de Burro")
Alan had a lifelong passion for the outdoors. Whether sailing his Venture 21, Windspirit, hiking any trail he could find, or blazing his own path in his off-road 4-wheeler, Foxy, he found joy and peace in nature. He was always quick to lend a helping hand, never expecting anything in return. He believed in caring for the Earth in small ways, too—never walking past a piece of litter without picking it up, often saying, "It hurts my eyes." Alan was a true history buff with an encyclopedic knowledge of modern world history. He was a voracious reader and could speak at length about global events, wars, and politics —always with incredible detail and insight.
In his later years, Alan found deep companionship and joy with his partner Jennifer Mary Rogers of Elora, Ontario, Canada. He also enjoyed the company of his loving pup Hunter who went everywhere with him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 8th 3pm -6pm 2025 at the Coyote Howls Campground in Why, Arizona. Planning is underway but for more information, please contact Alex at alexander.bobo@gmail.com.
In honor of Alan's love for nature and preservation, please consider donating to the U.S. National Park Service. https://www.nps.gov/getinvolved/donate.htm
Most importantly, we encourage you to power down your devices and find your own adventure in the great outdoors—just as Alan would have.
