Chuck Lewis made friends easily. If you believe in an afterlife, he's definitely cracking jokes with new pals in another realm, having left this one behind on October 1, 2025.

Born March 21, 1949 in Oakland, California to Charlie and Winnifred Lewis, Chuck was a sweet, happy, and easy-going child who balanced out his sister, Melinda, who recalls him never seeming to mind her bossing him around. He just simply never got angry.

He attended Piedmont High School where he built a legacy of camaraderie, earned the title of friendliest student by his peers, and paved the way for his younger brother, Jim, to join him as a member of the school's Rigma Lion's social club when Jim entered 10th grade. Chuck's reputation preceded him, giving Jim a rare confidence as he navigated those formative years.

In 1971, Chuck and Jim spent 100 days traveling together through 13 countries in Europe. For the rest of their lives, to the end, the brothers were able to reminisce and reflect on their legendary time together.

When Chuck left for college, his friend Katie followed him to San Diego where they started dating, and later married on September 20, 1975. Together, they shared a love of music, family, and the great outdoors. Their boys, Charlie and Oliver, born just 15 months apart, were their most precious gift to each other.

In 1990, they relocated to Utah and though their marriage didn't continue, their friendship did.

Chuck spent many, many days in the mountains, where he hiked, biked, and skied often. In April of 1995, he met his second wife, Margo, at a parking lot party for Alta Ski Resort's final day of the season. He called her two days later on a Tuesday; they went out again on Wednesday and Thursday; he made dinner for her that Saturday; and rode bikes on Antelope Island that Sunday. After one more dinner, she was hooked. They married October 3, 1998.

Chuck and Margo got a lot out of their involvement with the greyhound rescue, fostering and owning various elegant creatures through the years. They hosted an annual holiday gathering each December that brought together all of his many different communities. Chuck enjoyed seeing cousins and family every year at the family cabin in Tahoe. He also hosted his extended family for the Olympics in 2002, and invited them to stay whenever they wanted to take advantage of the greatest snow on Earth.

Chuck always wanted to know more about everything. He and his friend Tom, post-college, would call the library with questions, always curious and searching for answers to matters big and small. He enjoyed explaining things, and passed down his wisdom to Charlie and Oliver, going into great detail about radio interference, for example, when the signal cut out. Some of his sons' best memories of him involve camping trips, skiing, storytelling, playing sports, and just enjoying his amazing sense of humor.

Chuck was a truly non-judgmental person. He never got caught up in nonsense. He had his values and stuck to them but kept them to himself. Took being a neighbor and friend seriously.

Above all, he was kind and thoughtful. We could all stand to be more like Chuck.

Chuck is survived by his wife Margo, his children Charlie Lewis (Jamie Gadette) and Oliver Lewis; stepchildren Candis Winfrey (Tracy Russell) and Frankie Winfrey (Rikki Epperson); grandchildren Winston Lewis, Morghan Farrer (Ashley Glover), MyKalla Russell, and Alexis Broock; brother Jim Lewis (Cindy); and sister Melinda Marchi.

A celebration of life will be held on Nov 1, 2025 from 2-5 p.m. at Our Lady of the Snows, located across from Alta Ski Resort. 10185 E. Highway 210, Alta, Utah.
