Charles David Chur, age 83, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025 in The Villages, Florida. Known to family as David and to his many friends and colleagues as Chuck, he will be deeply missed.
Chuck was born December 22, 1941 in Syracuse, New York to Charles H. and Jane (Beeler) Chur. He grew up in Syracuse with his sister, Robin, and graduated from Marcellus Central High School in 1959. He attended Hobart College and was an Airman First Class in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-1966.
In 1968, Chuck married Linda Milligan in Grenloch, NJ; they shared 57 years of marriage and raised children Scott, Tammi, and Traci after moving their family from New Jersey to Ramsey, Minnesota.
Chuck built a successful career in the early computing industry, working for Comten/NCR Comten and later retiring from Greentree Financial. In retirement, Chuck and Linda enjoyed living in several communities, including Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; in Monticello, Minnesota; and most recently in Lady Lake, Florida.
A lifelong learner and nature enthusiast, Chuck was an avid birdwatcher, a Missouri Master Naturalist, and a ham radio operator. He happily dedicated many weekends to volunteering at the University of Minnesota Raptor Center and at Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge. Above all, he was a devoted husband, and proud father and grandfather, affectionately known as Pop-Pop to his grandchildren.
Chuck is survived by his wife Linda, his son Scott (Sarah) Chur of Elk River, MN; his daughter Tammi (Scott) Owens of Omaha, NE; his daughter Traci Chur of Ramsey, MN; his grandchildren Genevieve, Beckett, and Eli Chur; and his sister Robin (Doug) Walker of Seville, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents and by twin daughters who died at birth.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in Minnesota. Memorials are preferred to The Raptor Center or to Sherburne National Wildlife Refuge in Chuck's honor.
