September 19, 1944 - October 11, 2025

Bob Walker, 81, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Bob discovered early passions that would shape his life — a love of boating, horses, and the camaraderie of sport. He attended Denison University, where he played football, hockey, and lacrosse, and was a proud member of Beta Theta Pi. A lifelong fan of Pittsburgh sports, Bob's enthusiasm was unwavering — his children fondly recall that no one in the Walker household was permitted to attend school on the day of the Pittsburgh Pirates' home opener and his original terrible towel given to him in the 1970s from Myron Cope still remains in his family's possession.

After college, Bob answered a higher calling and served his country with distinction in the United States Navy. His four years of active duty evolved into a 30+ year career of dedicated service, where he was proud of his command of the USS Chikaskhi & USS Jospeh Hewes. Ascending to the rank of Captain, he led many missions aboard in both Europe and Asia. The Navy gave him lifelong friends and a treasure trove of stories — many of these became the endless stories he told throughout his life.

During his time on the Jersey Shore, Bob met the love of his life, Donna. They later moved to Chicago, where they welcomed their first child, Jessica, before settling in Pittsburgh where their second daughter, Teal was born— this city became home for the rest of his life.

In Pittsburgh, Bob built both a business and a legacy. He began his career in the steel industry with J&L Steel before founding his own company, Trumbull Metal Service in Youngstown, OH. Beyond work, Bob and Donna lovingly restored the historic Fife Homestead, in Upper St. Clair, to its original 1870s beauty, honoring the home's heritage while filling it with family memories.

Bob was deeply engaged in his community. He was an avid supporter of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and the local theatre, and a passionate runner who completed more than 100 marathons across the world. His love of travel — especially by train — was legendary; his kids often joked that he singlehandedly kept Amtrak in business, having traversed nearly every route from coast to coast.

Gregarious and endlessly curious, Bob had a rare gift for connection — there wasn't a person he met that he didn't engage with in friendly banter.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Waldo and Martha Walker; his brother, Tex Walker; his beloved wife, Donna Walker; and his daughter, Jessica Walker.

He is survived by his daughter, Teal Walker(Dan Murphy), and his sister, Nancy Baron (Jim).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bob's memory to the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (https://give.pittsburghsymphony.org/give-today/), the Montour Trail Council(https://montourtrail.app.neoncrm.com/forms/donate), or Alzheimer's Research (https://alzfdn.org/donate/

Bob Walker lived a life of purpose, laughter, service, and love — leaving behind a legacy as enduring as the many miles he ran and the countless hearts he touched.
