Butch graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and furthered his education at Creighton University in Omaha, NE, using GI bill to obtain a degree in education from Creighton University. He later earned a degree in athletic training from Southeast Missouri State, which led to a rewarding career at Creighton University and Coastal Carolina, where he served as an athletic trainer.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Butch served from 1963 to 1967, during which he demonstrated the values of loyalty and commitment that would define both his personal and professional life.
Butch was known for his private and independent nature, yet he was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. His passion for sports was evident, especially his unwavering support for Creighton University Athletics.
Preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Bernice Fennell; brother, Raymond Mase; and sisters, Karen Waltrip and Alice Christensen, Butch leaves behind his sister, Patricia Robbins of Phoenix, AZ, and many nieces and nephews who will miss his guiding presence.
