Claire M. (Canniff) Sullivan, age 77, of South Weymouth, formerly of Hyde Park, died peacefully, Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Conway Medical Center in Conway, S.C., in the comfort of her loving family.
Claire was born in Quincy, to the late Mary A. (Sullivan) and Edward T. "Tad" Canniff, Sr. Raised in Hyde Park, she was a graduate of the former Saint Clare High School, Class of 1965. Claire attended nursing school and became a licensed practical nurse. She lived in South Weymouth for the past thirty years.
Claire was employed as a Supervisor of Customer Services with the United States Postal Service and retired with over twenty years of service. Prior to that, Claire worked in the healthcare industry as a licensed practical nurse at the former Mattapan Chronic Disease Hospital for several years.
Family and friends speak mostly of Claire's infectious smile, sense of humor, quick wit, and authenticity. She enjoyed anything involving needle, thread, and yarn. Claire would often be found putting together a blanket or sweater for an unsuspecting loved one. Claire loved relaxing at her Lauderdale-by-the-Sea beach getaway, but also enjoyed world traveling to Asia, Africa, and Europe in her later years.
Most of all, Claire was devoted to her sons and cherished granddaughters, supporting all their many activities and accomplishments.

One of seven siblings, Claire was the dear sister of Edward T. Canniff, Jr. of Mattapan, Susan A. Gillis and her husband Thomas of Hyde Park, and was predeceased by Mary Lou Donovan, Kathleen A. Hansen, Maureen E. Valkanas and William S. Canniff.
Claire is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and their families.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Sweeney Brothers Home for Funerals, 1 Independence Avenue, Quincy, on Thursday, October 9, from 4 - 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint John the Baptist Church, 44 School Street, Quincy, on Friday, October 10, at 10 a.m. Interment to follow at Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.
