Craig Wilson Davis April 19, 1949 – October 16, 2025
Craig Wilson Davis, a distinguished pharmacologist, devoted educator, and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2025.
Born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, Craig was the son of the late Carl and Ruth Davis. His passion for science led him to the University of Michigan, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1972. He continued his academic journey at Emory University, completing his PhD in Pharmacology in 1977.
Craig's career was marked by both groundbreaking research and a deep commitment to education. He began as a staff fellow at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, before moving to South Carolina to join the University of South Carolina School of Medicine faculty. As an Associate Professor of Pharmacology, he shaped the minds of countless medical students with his expertise and dedication. Upon his retirement on December 31, 2009, the university honored him with the title of Professor Emeritus in recognition of his significant contributions to the field.
Even in retirement, Craig's passion for teaching never waned. He continued educating future physicians worldwide through Kaplan Medical and generously volunteered his pharmaceutical expertise at the Columbia Free Medical Clinic, embodying his lifelong commitment to healing and service.
Craig found joy in life's simple pleasures: the peacefulness of the mountains, the excitement of Michigan football, and most especially, precious moments with his grandchildren.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Harriet McMaster; his twin daughters, Jennifer Kenne (Gabe) and Julie Laintz (Jesse), both of Lexington, South Carolina; his son, Jonathan Davis (Gretchen) of Geneva, Switzerland; and his adored grandchildren, Raelyn Laintz, Oscar Davis, and Clara Davis. He is also survived by his niece, Theresa Davis (Kim) of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and her children, Lindsay and Liam Davis-Brady.
Craig was preceded in death by his son, Nathan Davis.
