Send Flowers
Cynthia Mary Geraghty, 70, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Sunday, September 21, 2025, after a long struggle with idiopathic lung disease. She was surrounded by her loving sons, Joshua S. Geraghty and his wife, Karen, of Norwalk, CT, and Seth S. Geraghty and his wife, Lissa, of Keene, NH.

She is survived by her sisters, Christine Longe of Shelburne, VT (and her children Toby, Michaellea, and Dylan, and their families) and Diane Paszkiewicz of Shelburne, VT. She was predeceased by her brother, John Paszkiewicz Jr, but is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Jennifer Ahimsa and Julie Anne Bruno, and their families. Cynthia is also survived by her beloved granddaughter, Gianna Helen Geraghty, daughter of Seth, as well as her cherished step-granddaughter, Evangelene.

Born in Queens, NY, on July 18, 1955 to John A. and Regina (Walicki) Paszkiewicz, Cynthia was the third of four children. She lived in Queens, NY; Sayreville, NJ; Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Swanzey, Keene, and Spofford NH; and most recently Norwalk, CT, where she resided with her son and daughter-in-law. Although she lived in many places, Cynthia considered New Hampshire her true home. She spoke often and fondly of its beauty and the many connections she made there. She especially cherished Spring and Autumn, her walks in “beautiful green natural places,” and the view of Mount Monadnock, “the mountain that stands alone.” Nature provided her with comfort, inspiration, and peace.

Cyndy, as she was affectionately known, had a lifelong love of animals – “sometimes more than people,” she would joke – and dreamed of a career caring for them. Over the years, she cared for many pets, including cats, dogs, birds, chickens, hamsters, and mice. She is survived by her much-loved cat, Rosie, now 23 years old. Cyndy often said Rosie thrived because of all the affection she received – tuna treats, belly rubs, chin scratches, and even songs. Cyndy regularly sang “Daisy Bell (A Bicycle Built for Two)” to Rosie, substituting “Rosie” for “Daisy.” Rosie now lives with Josh and Karen in Norwalk, where she continues to receive the same devoted care.

Cyndy valued her community deeply, building lasting friendships with neighbors of all ages and delighting in the wonder of young children. A woman of strong faith, she was a devout Christian and a Companion of the Northumbria Community, and for many years was a member of the First Baptist Church of Keene, NH. In her earlier years, she touched the lives of many in the Keene community through her work as a nurse. She later contributed to the community through volunteerism, including time spent helping at the local soup kitchen. She was known for being an active community member, with her compassion and readiness to help anyone in need.

In 1992, after surviving a tragic motor vehicle accident that left her disabled with chronic pain and fatigue, Cyndy found strength and connection through chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia support groups. She often joked that she was “quite literally a bionic woman, held together by steel and pins.” This humor and fortitude helped her endure life’s challenges.

Cyndy found great contentment and joy watching her granddaughter grow into a capable and kind young woman and loved attending Gianna and Evangelene’s performances at MoCo Arts. Just this past August, Cyndy delighted in a family vacation to Bethany Beach, DE, where precious memories were created with those she loved most.

Cynthia will be deeply missed and remembered for her gentleness, kindness, warmth, and unshakable love for family, friends, and the natural world.
A memorial service and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, starting at 1pm and will be held at the Monadnock Covenant Church, 90 Base Hill Road, in Keene, NH. All are welcome to join us to celebrate Cyndy’s life.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Monadnock Humane Society (https://monadnockhumanesociety.org/donate) or The Community Kitchen, Inc in Keene (https://thecommunitykitchen.org/).
