Dana passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 5th, 2025. She was in the comfort of her home in Overland Park, KS surrounded by her family.

Dana was born in Omaha, NE to Susan Jean Heilig and Thomas John Lauvetz. She was raised in Hastings, NE, and Ginger Cove in Valley, NE. She graduated from Hastings High School in 1992 where she was a member of the dance, cheer, and basketball teams. She then graduated from the University of Kansas in 1996, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.

Dana worked in advertising for the first 5 years of her career at Barkley (then Barkley & Evergreen). She later decided to focus on her true passions of dance and theater, by working at The Theatre in the Park in Lenexa, KS, various dance studios throughout Johnson County, and 10 years choregraphing The Plaza Lighting Ceremony on the Country Club Plaza. She most recently worked with The Jewish Community Center on the KC Superstar competition, conducted private dance lessons in her basement under the name 3D Studio (Dream/Dedicate/Debut), and was a board member of HCU Network America.

In 2001, Dana married her husband, Darren. They welcomed their first son, Ethan Thomas, in 2002, followed by Carson Brady in 2007.

Dana’s presence made the world brighter for all who knew her. Family was at the center of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, sibling, and friend – someone who always placed others before herself. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, filled with the sounds of laughter, good conversation, and the aroma of her favorite candles. Though her passing leaves a profound void in our hearts, she will live on through the countless lives she touched and the memories she created. Her legacy of love, compassion, and generosity will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Dana is preceded in death by her father Tom and grandparents Rich/Millie Heilig and Robert (Doc)/Sue Lauvetz. She is survived by her husband Darren, sons Ethan and Carson, mother Susan (Mema), and siblings Kari, TJ, Kym, and Cindy.

Services will be held on Friday, November 21st at 11:00 am at The Church of the Resurrection (Wesley Chapel) in Leawood, KS. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following at The Venue Event Space, also in Leawood. Both are open to all who wish to attend.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to HCU Network America, where Dana served on the board. Her son Carson has Homocystinuria cblG, which is a rare metabolic disorder that impacts his ability to process amino acids, putting him at risk for seizures, vision loss, and stroke.
