Daniel "Sonny" Barbano, 90, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2025, in Scarborough, Maine.

Born on April 30, 1935, in Washington D.C., Dan lived a life marked by dedication to family, service to his community, and a passion for hospitality. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War conflict, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty and commitment.

In 1972, Dan began a remarkable chapter as a business owner in Old Orchard Beach, where he operated several beloved establishments until 2004. His ventures included the Empire Restaurant, Cascade Plaza, Jolly Juicer, and the iconic Krazy Klam. These businesses became local landmarks and gathering places for generations of residents and visitors alike.

Beyond his entrepreneurial spirit, Dan was deeply involved in civic life. He served on the Zoning Board and held the position of Police Commissioner. His leadership extended into community organizations as well—he was an active member of the Lions Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and the American Legion.

Dan shared sixty devoted years of marriage with his wife Nancy. Together they built a loving family and enjoyed many winters in Laughlin, Nevada— Dan also indulged in one of his favorite pastimes: playing pool, (One of the Best)

He leaves behind his wife Nancy; Daughter; Patricia Barbano Soule and Benjamin; Son Anthony Barbano and his wife Mariann Marcisso Barbano; Granddaughter Margaret Moore; grandchildren Ryan and Susan Brocket; great-grandchildren Ryan and Bella Brocket, and A.J. and Jackie Moore Colson; Sisters Maria Bouvier, Nancy Erwin, and Betty St. Louis.

Dan was predeceased by his parents Antonio and Dorothy Barbano; son Dino Barbano; and sister Faye Bergeron.

A Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor Dan's memory.
