Daniel Joseph Curtis, born on July 27, 1948, in Staten Island, New York, passed away on October 11, 2025, in Hendersonville, North Carolina. He was 77 years old.
Daniel proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971. His time in the military marked the beginning of a life defined by service and perseverance. After his military service, he served his community as a police officer in Liberty, NY and later in security and Human Resources at Kutsher's Country Club and Dominion Resources. Later in life he pursued higher education with determination, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business from Southern Wesleyan University and a Master’s degree in Education from Mary Washington University. He retired for a third time in 2014 as a special education teacher.
Daniel shared 34 years of marriage with Jennifer Curtis. He was a father to Daniel Curtis Jr. and his wife Lecia (Hill), Robert Curtis and his wife Heather (Kerley), Patrick Curtis and his wife Charity Rae (Shatley), James Curtis and his wife Catherine (Regan), Christine Curtis, and Jessica Reeves. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Daniel Curtis III (DJ), Matthew Curtis, Nicholas Curtis, Michael Curtis, Grace Lopez, Madeline Curtis, Jack Curtis, Brendan Reeves, and Alexis Reeves. He was also blessed with ten great-grandchildren.
Daniel is also remembered by his brother Thomas Curtis and sister-in-law Joyce and his sister-in-law Karen Curtis and many nieces, nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sally Curtis (Alplanalp) and John Russell Curtis; siblings Jack Curtis, Edward Curtis, and Patricia Croitz; as well as Tamara Curtis (Stalinski), former wife and mother of Daniel Jr, Robert, Christine, and Jessica.
A man of many interests, Daniel found great satisfaction in the outdoors, woodworking, hunting, and storytelling. He had a deep appreciation for history—a passion that reflected both his curiosity about the world and respect for those who came before him.
