Dr. David S. Ginsburg, 82

Beloved husband for 63 years of Dale Barnett Ginsburg. Loving father of Steven (Cindy) Ginsburg and Marc (Eva) Ginsburg. Proud grandfather of Charlie, Ellie, Max, Jaden and Ariel. Dear brother of Arnold (Susan) Ginsburg, Linda (Eli) Dayan and Ivy (Tim) Dixon.

David and Dale met in the seventh grade. Dale was entranced by him talking about his favorite book “Relativity”, by Albert Einstein. After three years at the University of Michigan, they were married and moved back to Chicago where David began medical school at the University of Chicago. He remained there through his internship and residency, and then moved to Northwestern medical school for his fellowship in nephrology. After three years on the staff at Northwestern, David and Dale moved to Highland Park where David went into private practice and Dale worked side-by-side with him as his office manager for the first seven years. Shortly thereafter, he became instrumental in the creation of the first dialysis unit at Highland Park hospital, where he remained the medical director for the rest of his career.

While David retired at sixty-five, he was always on call for his friends and family. He also volunteered his time and medical services until just a few years ago. He also returned to Northwestern where his passion and love for teaching showed no bounds.

It was not just medicine and teaching that he was passionate about. He found remarkable solace in the Rockies, and comfort in Ezio Pinza and John Denver. He was inspired by pieces from Leonardo and could talk about history for hours.

While his passions for music, art, history and medicine were unwavering, there was one thing that David loved above all else, and that was his family. David was blessed with two loving, loyal sons, Steven (Cindy) and Marc (Eva), and five adoring grandchildren, all who surrounded and comforted him during his illness. Gramps, as his grandchildren affectionately called him, loved Charlie, Ellie, Max, Jaden and Ariel deeply, purely and wholly. David was his grandchildren’s favorite teacher, but what they did not realize was that he learned greatly from them as well. David also had great love and respect for the rest of his family and close friends of which there were many.

Lastly, was his relationships with his sons Steven and Marc. He loved them beyond all, respected them, and felt an immense amount of pride and joy in them.

He left us with a smile on his face because he was surrounded by his sons, and Dale, his beloved wife of sixty-three years. They shared a lifetime full of adventure, love and devotion. May his memory be a blessing.
