David Carl Hammill, 60, passed away on October 31, 2025, in Knoxville, Tennessee. Born on August 25, 1965, in Vero Beach, Florida, David lived a life marked by generosity, service, and a deep love for his family and the outdoors.
David proudly served his country in the United States Navy from October 1984 to July 1988 as a Fireman E-3. His time in the Navy reflected his lifelong commitment to helping others and his strong sense of duty. Whether serving aboard ship or back home with loved ones, David carried with him a spirit of camaraderie and resilience that defined much of his life.
He was known for his warm personality and outgoing nature—he never met a stranger. Always ready to lend a hand, David was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without hesitation. His helpfulness and genuine care for others left lasting impressions on those fortunate enough to know him.
David found great joy in spending time outdoors. He loved fishing and being out on the boat, hunting in the woods, and going mudding—activities that brought him peace and excitement alike. These passions were often shared with family and friends, creating cherished memories that will live on in their hearts.
Family was at the center of David’s world. He is survived by his devoted wife, Bobbie Jo Hammill; sons Michael (Hailey) Hammill and Carl Hammill; and grandchildren Lane and Bailey Hammill of Knoxville, Tennessee. He also leaves behind his mother & father Frances (Dutch) Ollis; sister Donna Hammill; and best friend Steve Serbal, and three uncles.
David was preceded in death by his father Albert Carl Hammill; maternal grandparents Clarence and Rosemary Richey; and paternal grandparents Albert and Marion Hammill and numerous aunts and uncles.
A man of heart, humor, and unwavering loyalty, David Carl Hammill will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and inspiration to all who remember his generous spirit.
