David Paul Kuzmicz, 70, of Arlington, Massachusetts, lost his battle with cancer surrounded by loved ones at home on October 24, 2025.

He was born in South Bend, Indiana in 1955 to Aloysius and Isabel (Przestwor) Kuzmicz, where he was the youngest of 3 children and grew up immersed in sports from an early age. David was a 1973 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School where he played varsity baseball and basketball, as well as other sports. He then went on to earn a full ride at Notre Dame to play point guard for the basketball team during the 1970s Digger Phelps era. He studied Business Administration and graduated Class of 1977. He went on to play a year of semi-pro basketball in Ireland and remained an avid sports player with a love for basketball, golf and soccer.

David became a teacher’s aid at Sunshine Nursery School in Arlington, MA where he fell in love with teaching. He became a middle school math teacher at the Andrews and McGlynn Middle Schools in Medford, MA and received his Master’s in Education degree from Salem State in 2018. During that time, he organized the ‘Buzz Off for Cancer’ charity for several years and spent summers running the Arlington Rec. Summer Programs.

He was also a high school and college basketball official with CBOA and IAABO, where he was a member for 26 years and served as IAABO President for Board 27 for two years. He was awarded the IAABO Charles H. Diehl Award for superior leadership qualities, commitment and dedication to the advancement and success of Board 27 in 2024.

David was preceded in death by his mother Isabel, father Aloysius, and step-mother Stephanie, and is survived by his wife Vivian Davidovich, children Erika and Zachary Kuzmicz, and siblings Joan Rodell and Bob Kuzmicz.

A celebration of David’s life will take place on November 9, 2025 at Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester at 1pm. In honor of David’s wish, contributions may be made to The Sanborn Foundation in lieu of flowers.
