David Robert Travis, age 66, passed away peacefully at his home in Shelby Township, Michigan, on October 27, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on September 27, 1959, in Detroit, Michigan, David lived a life marked by deep devotion to family, enduring friendships, and a quiet strength that carried him through even the most difficult times.
David was a former employee of Art Van Furniture, where he formed lasting bonds with colleagues he proudly called friends. His time there was more than just a job—it was a place where he built relationships that remained meaningful throughout his life.
In March of 2025, David was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a challenge he faced with courage and grace. Throughout his illness, he was lovingly cared for by his devoted wife Cindy. Together they shared countless moments of love and companionship that defined their life together.
David is survived by his beloved wife Cindy; his stepdaughter Ashley Barr and her husband Ben; his son Jacob Travis; his daughter Savannah Travis; and his cherished granddaughter Teddy, who brought him immense joy as a proud grandfather. He also leaves behind his brother Roger Smith and sister-in-law Janice. David was predeceased by his parents and his niece Crystal.
A man of many interests, David found great enjoyment in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid basketball fan and spent countless hours working on his treasured basketball card collection—a hobby that brought him both joy and relaxation. He also enjoyed being outdoors, whether working in the yard or tackling small projects around the house. Social by nature, David loved catching up with friends and often dabbled on Facebook to stay connected.
Family meant everything to David. He treasured time spent with Cindy, their children, and especially his brother Roger. These moments—filled with laughter, conversation, and love—were the foundation of a life well-lived.
In the final months of his journey, David found peace and comfort speaking with the hospice chaplain. His faith provided solace as he prepared for what lay ahead.
David will be remembered as a loving husband and father—funny, understanding, and always ready to lend support to those who needed him. His presence brought warmth to every room he entered and left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
May his memory bring comfort to those who loved him and strength to carry forward the legacy of kindness and connection he so effortlessly embodied.
