David Webb of Sun City, AZ (formerly of Swartz Creek, MI) passed away quietly on June 28, 2025 at the age of 103 surrounded by family. He was born in Hale, MI on January 25, 1922 to John and Luella (VanWormer) Webb. He is survived by his wife Lois Singleton Coy, his children Kathryn, David Jr. (Betsy), Thomas (Sandy), Nancy (late David Fournier) and Daniel (Linda); his grandchildren Ben (Tanya), Amanda (Craig), Sarah (Rory), Amy, Kurt, Christine (Chris), James, Thomas, Laura, Scott, Ashley, Emily (Mike), and Jennifer (Dan) and several great grandchildren; also survived by his siblings John Webb and Charlotte Thuemmel.
David was preceded in death by his first wife Viola (Strahan), grandson Andrew Webb, and siblings Rose Barnum, Ruth Schwoebell and Virginia Digard.
After graduating from Adrian College, he served in the US Navy during WWII. After his discharge, he returned to Adrian to finish his master's in education degree. David began his teaching career in the Swartz Creek Community Schools in 1947 where he remained until his retirement. During his tenure at SCCS, he taught several subjects including Social Studies, and Driver's Ed and coached track at the High School. He also held the position of Principal at the Morrish Elementary School, Mary Crapo School and the Middle School where he was the school's first principal. In the 1960's while at the Middle School, he started innovative programs like providing breakfast for students and intramural sports at lunchtime.
During his service in the Navy, David was part of NAMRU-2, a biomedical research laboratory established with purpose of studying infectious diseases; he was involved in studying effects of malaria while stationed in Guam and Okinawa.
He loved having his family visit wherever he was living. Large family dinners were enjoyed often throughout the years. When the grandchildren were young, Granddad and Gramma's house was the place to be. There were always Big Wheels and scooters to ride; Granddad would occasionally join them on one of the scooters.
David was community oriented. He was a founding member of the Swartz Creek Kiwanis chapter. He and his wife Viola were active members of the Sun City P.R.I.D.E.S., helping maintain the boulevards in Sun City. He was an active lifelong member of the Methodist church.
David gave sound advice and was often asked what the secret to a long life was: he would reply '"eating right and daily walks."
