It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, David Brian Wilcox, who passed on October 2nd, 2025 at the age of 65. He lived his life with strength, love, and courage to the end.
David was born on March 26, 1960 in Lompoc, California to Clair and
Frances Wilcox. He was the third of six children, a shy and quiet boy
with fiery red hair, beautiful blue eyes, long eyelashes to match, and
freckles that covered his sweet face. He graduated from Kuna High
School in Kuna, Idaho in 1978. He served a mission for the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1979-1981. Shortly after returning home from his mission he met his sweetheart, Shannon Potter. They had a whirlwind Cinderella romance and were married on May 30, 1981 in the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Their home was blessed with four beautiful children, Christopher Tyson (1982), Jeremy Brian (1984),
Cheree' Renee' (1985), and Deserae Lei (1987).
David joined the United States Air Force in April of 1983 where he
served for 8 years in both Okinawa, Japan and Great Falls, Montana.
After leaving the Air Force in 1991, he moved his family to Rexburg,
Idaho where he worked as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Madison County Fire District. In 1994 his family made the move to Kuna,
Idaho where he split his time as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Kuna
Rural Fire Department and as a Dispatch Officer and Jail Tech for the
Ada County Sheriff's Office. On August 16, 1996 he completed the
Idaho Peace Officers Standards and Training Academy, becoming an
Ada County Sheriff's Deputy. On November 2nd, 2018, after 24
dedicated years, he retired as a Sheriff's Deputy and moved into the
full time position of husband, father, and grandfather. On June 5th,
2018, David and his sweetheart Shannon moved to Garden Valley,
Idaho where he poured a labor of love into turning their house into
their beloved Huckleberry Haven Home.
He had an immense love for his Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ
and shared that faith with anyone willing to listen. He found great joy
in serving alongside his sweetheart, as a temple worker in the Meridian Idaho Temple for nearly 7 years, a calling we know he is now continuing in Heaven. He loved serving his community, especially working with the tree crew cutting down trees, splitting the wood, and delivering it to those in need. He found joy in nature, most notably by hiking, snowshoeing, and adventuring with his sweetheart, family, and friends. One of his favorite activities was to play games. His
competitive spirit and light hearted banter made for many late nights
surrounded by laughter and love. When he wasn't spending time
adventuring with his family, serving God and his community, and chasing after his grandchildren, he poured his love and talents into woodcarving. His carvings were that of a whimsical nature including animals, woodland fantasy scenes, and everyday objects, that often included a touch of his humor. His favorite carvings were his annual Christmas ornaments that he would secretly design, carve, and then
lovingly gift to each of his children. His beloved carvings will be proudly displayed for the enjoyment of anyone in attendance at his Memorial Service.
He is survived by his sweetheart of 44 beautiful years, Shannon Potter Wilcox, his wonderful children Chris (Amelia), Jeremy (Jessica), Cheree' Pruitt (Shaun), Deserae Johnson (Kevin). His brothers Ron (Gaylene), and Eric. His sisters Paula Clayson (Shayne), and Molly Grinder. His 21 incredible grandchildren, and many loved nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father Clair Wilcox, mother Frances Hightower Wilcox, sister Cathy Wilcox, and his grandparents Harlan Gray, Amy Jones Gray, William Wilcox, Dora Michelson
Wilcox, Robert Hightower, and Lou Ila O'Brien Hightower.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at
10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located
at 950 Banks Lowman Rd, Garden Valley, Idaho 83622. A public
viewing will be held prior to the memorial service at 9:00 a.m. For
those unable to attend in person, the memorial service will also be
