MIDDLETON, WI — Dennis Richard Lubing, age 78, of Middleton, Wisconsin, born in Madison, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2025, surrounded by family at Cardinal View Senior Living. He was the son of Dr. Harold Lubing and Edythe (Flint) Lubing.
Dennis was a devoted and loving husband to Mary Beth (Shiels) Lubing, who predeceased him. Together, they cherished traveling, the performing arts, time spent with family and friends, Saturday movie nights, snowboarding trips, reading, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and time on the local lakes, among other joys.
Before marriage to Mary Beth, Dennis spent time out west, working and going to school in both Oregon and California, before returning to Madison.
Dennis pursued many athletic passions throughout his life: water-skiing, marathon running, sailing, yoga, weight lifting, white‑water kayaking (a member of the Portland Kayak & Canoe Team), windsurfing into his sixties (taught windsurfing on Lake Vancouver, Washington), snowboarding into his seventies, and until health issues intervened, was on to learning kiteboarding.
Dennis, an ever-optimist, faced each day with hope.
With several academic degrees including electronic engineering technology, he chose work in CAD 3D design and drafting. He worked at Electronic Theatre Controls (ETC) in Middleton, going on to finish his career at Associated Security, designing commercial fire‑alarm systems for eleven UW–Madison campus buildings, including the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences Building, Engineering Hall, and Camp Randall Stadium.
He is survived by his brothers, Dr. John (Martha) Lubing, William (RDell Johnson) Lubing, and Jim (Jill) Lubing; his sister, Julie (Gary) Goldstein; many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
The family expresses deep gratitude to Agrace Hospice and the caregivers at Cardinal View Senior Living for their compassionate support.
A private family service will be held.
