Diana (Pilgrim) Humphries, beloved wife, teacher, figure skater and lifelong traveler, died peacefully at Ivy Park Assisted Living in Huntington Beach, CA, on October 9, 2025. She was 91. Diana was born Nov. 1, 1933, in Los Angeles, to parents Thomas Pilgrim and mother Marian (Kennedy) Pilgrim.

Diana grew up in the Los Angeles and Long Beach area where she studied dance and figure skating. At age 14 she won first place in the Southern California Inter-Club Association Competition, earning the Novice Ladies Medal. While in high school she took ice-skating classes with Art Gelien, who later became known as the actor Tab Hunter. Those early years on the ice remained one of her fondest lifelong memories.

Diana graduated from Whittier College in 1955, later building a career as a member of the faculty of Fullerton Junior College Home Economics Department where she specialized in fashion design. An instructor there for many years, she was admired by students for her practical teaching, attention to detail, and encouraging mentorship.

Diana and her husband Donald made their home for many years in Long Beach, where they were active members of the Long Beach Yacht Club, and later in Palm Desert. They also maintained second homes in Park City and Deer Valley, Utah. where Diana and Donald enjoyed downhill skiing. They shared a deep love of the outdoors and winters spent on the slopes, summers sailing, or traveling on cruises. After Donald’s passing, Diana continued to honor their shared passions and the home they loved in Palm Desert.

Diana loved travel, particularly international trips and cruises which she enjoyed throughout retirement. She retained her sense of adventure after Donald’s death, often inviting friends and family to join her on voyages. Diana was known for her generosity, her eye for design, and a curiosity that made every trip an experience to be remembered. Diana was an adventurous presence whose life blended creative teaching, athletic achievement, and a love of travel.

Diana is survived by her four siblings: James L. Taylor of Indio, CA; Daphne L. Worsham of San Marcos TX, Darlene L. Martin of Long Beach CA, Dawn M. Flores of North Bend, WA.

Diana requested that no service be held following her passing. The family will honor Diana’s wishes by spreading her ashes at sea.
