Diana Marie (Wirtjes) Wollam, age 77, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 26, 2025, in Seminole, Florida. Though we never had the chance to say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing she was living her best life. A devoted educator, loving mother and grandmother, and cherished friend to many, Diana’s life was marked by compassion, service, and a deep commitment to her family and community.

Born on March 17, 1948, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, Diana was the daughter of Lawrence Wirtjes and Darlene (Rhubee) Wirtjes Kinkead. She graduated from Buffalo Center High School before pursuing her passion for education at the University of Northern Iowa, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree. Her dedication to lifelong learning led her to obtain a master’s degree from the University of South Florida.

Diana began her teaching career in Rake, Iowa, where she taught elementary school students with warmth and enthusiasm. She later co-owned and taught at the Magic Kingdom Preschool which started in Lakota, then later moved to Buffalo Center while raising her two children. After relocating to Florida in 1984, Diana continued her vocation at Madeira Beach Elementary/Fundamental School, where she taught kindergarten for more than three decades with unwavering dedication. She was honored as the Seminole Chamber Teacher of the Year and was beloved by students, parents, and colleagues alike. Over the years, she proudly taught three generations of families and remained in touch with many former students and coworkers long after retirement.

Beyond the classroom, Diana lived a life rich with purpose and joy. In retirement, she became involved in a variety of social groups and organizations that filled her calendar. She loved traveling, exploring new places, and most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren. Whether attending school events or playing cards around the table, Diana cherished every moment with those she loved most.

She also found strength and community through acts of service and faith. As an active member of Connect2Christ Church, Diana gave generously of her time through volunteer work that touched countless lives. Her kindhearted nature made her a beloved presence wherever she went—whether gathering with friends or lending a helping hand to someone in need.

Diana, affectionately known as “Grandma D the dragonfly” is lovingly remembered by her children: Allison (Wollam) Zimmerman and husband Brian Zimmerman; Joseph Wollam; and by her adored grandchildren: Eliana “ladybug”, Leora “firefly”, and Brielle “butterfly” Zimmerman. She is also survived by her sister Mary (Wirtjes) Schutjer with whom she shared a lifetime of memories.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Wirtjes in 1977 and Darlene (Rhubee) Wirtjes Kinkead in 2019 , as well as by her former spouse and father of her children, Jack Wollam in 2024.

Diana Marie Wollam leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to others. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held on November 22, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Connect2Christ Church, 9398 Oakhurst Rd., Seminole, FL 33776. Lunch will be served following the service. An inurnment service will be held at Olena Mounds Cemetery in Buffalo Center, Iowa, at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Connect2Christ Church or the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) Sisterhood Chapter EF in Seminole, FL.
