Dolores Wise Black, of Fort Worth, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on Tuesday, October 21, 2025. Dolores was born December 9, 1934 to Eva Birch Bryan and Columbus Hilton (“Shotgun”) Wise at home, in Rockwood, Coleman County, Texas. Dolores graduated from Santa Anna High School and attended Southwest Texas State in San Marcos.
Dolores is survived by her beloved husband of 69 years, William Forbes Black, Jr. (“Bill”). They married in Fort Worth, Texas on July 21, 1956. They had two sons and a daughter.
Dolores was a devoted wife and mother whose home served as a hub of neighborhood activity. A passionate collector of Early American antiques, she was an active member of the Fort Worth Antiquarian Club. She fondly remembered her childhood in Rockwood, Texas, cherished family ski trips to Colorado, and treasured a 50th Anniversary cruise through the Baltic with Bill.
She loved children and, while her own were young, operated a day care and mother’s day out program from her home. After her children were grown, she joined TCU, where she worked for 18 years in the student center. Following her retirement, Dolores and Bill divided their time between Fort Worth and their beloved vacation home on Lake Brownwood, where she took great joy in celebrating the Fourth of July and entertaining family and friends.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Eva and Columbus Wise, and her sisters, Colleen Wise, Kelly Wise Smith, and her brother, Dr. Wesley Samuel Wise and his wife, Susan Duncan Wise.
In addition to her husband, Dolores is survived by her son, William Forbes Black, III (Shellie), her daughter, Kelly Hilton Lovett (Howard); son, Corey Borden Black (Christine), all of Fort Worth; grandchildren: William Forbes Black, IV (Bo) of Round Rock, Texas, Christa Steed, (Justin) of Hurst, Texas; Aaron Meroney (Ashli) of Middleburg, Florida, Brittain Lovett (Doug Wiemer) of Denver, Colorado, Sibley Nebergall (Jake), of Studio City, California, and Eliza Lovett (Roman DeShong) of Denver, Colorado; great grandchildren: Olan and Jonathon Lehman, Henry Wiemer, and Olivia Nebergall; her sister, Susie Wise Riley (Joe) of Brownwood, Texas, and many nieces and nephews,
