Donald Joseph Buckley

Donald Joseph Buckley, aged 91, passed away on October 29, 2025, in Tucson, AZ. Born on November 24, 1933, Donald dedicated his life to service both in the military and as a law enforcement officer.
Donald proudly served as a submariner in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1957, an experience that marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to his country. After his military service, he joined the Suffolk County Police in 1964, where he served as a patrolman and later as a Crime Scene Investigator until his retirement in 1992.
Beyond his professional life, Donald was deeply involved in community service. He was a founding member of the Smithtown Volunteer Fire Department, Co.5, serving from 1963 to 1992. His commitment to community service continued when he became an active member of the Knights of Columbus in Melbourne, FL, from 1993 until 2022.
Donald was the beloved husband of the late Caroline Buckley, who preceded him in death in 2010. He is survived by his children, Don and Chris, Maureen and Matt, Pat and Deb, and Tim; grandchildren, Patrick, Tristen, Brian, and Thomas; and his siblings, Marion and Robert.
A graveside service will be held at Calverton Cemetery at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to various veteran organizations in honor of Donald's commitment to his fellow servicemen and women.
