Doris Helen (Allison) Powell passed away peacefully on September 29, 2025 at the age of 92. Her long life was marked by her commitment to her family and church.

She was born in Washington IN to Royal and Iva Allison, the youngest of four sisters. In the eighth grade, the family moved to Odon, IN where Doris
went on to graduate from Odon High School in 1951. She was a cheerleader, played in the band, and gave piano lessons. She began college at Indiana
State University where she met her future husband, Bill Powell from Brooklyn, Indiana. They married on Christmas Eve in 1952, a marriage that spanned sixty-three years, until she was widowed in 2016.

As Doris and Bill moved from Terre Haute, to Speedway, Bloomington,
Muncie, and Champaign, IL, Evansville, IN, and finally southward to Gainesville, FL , their own family grew to include four children: Jeanne Orman (Steve) of Jacksonville FL, Bill Powell of Gainesville FL, Mark Powell (Kathleen) of Peachtree City GA, and Susan Brown (Ed) of Fort Lauderdale FL. Later, Bill and Doris delighted in their four grandsons, Andy Powell (Allison) of Peachtree City, GA, Robert Powell (Chris) of Sunderland MA, Christopher Orman (Beth) of Orangeburg, SC, and Patrick Orman (Abby) of Jacksonville, FL. They marveled at their seven precious great grandchildren.

Doris lived in Florida over fifty years, but a piece of Indiana always stayed
in her heart. She subscribed to The Odon Journal throughout her lifetime.
She read it faithfully, even in the days prior to her death. She and Bill loved
their annual trips back to Indiana State Park to visit with her dear sisters
and their families. That included Opal and Malcolm Radcliffe, originally
of Washington IN, Willoughby Steckley of Vincennes IN, and Edie and. Keith Conrow of Whiteland IN. As the last surviving sister, she missed them immensely.

Doris was a dedicated organist at The First Christian Church of Gaines-
ville for over twenty years, and also served as the organist for Gainesville’s Grace United Methodist Church for a number of years. She took organ lessons at the University of Florida and joined the American Organ Guild. Other organizations in which she was active and enjoyed were P.E.O. and The University Wives Club.

In her final days, she was surrounded by family, a reflection of the bonds
she nurtured throughout her lifetime. Messages have arrived from friends
she comforted and steadied in their times of trouble. She is gone, and greatly missed, but her love will continue to be with us.

There will be no service, per her request, but a private family remembrance will be held next October in Indiana.

Memorial donations in her name may be directed to the P.E.O. Educational Loan Fund c/o P.E.O. Executive Office, Treasurer’s Dept., 3700 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa, 50312. Please make checks payable to P.E.O. ELF Project. Online donations can be made at http://peo-portal.com/donations?step=0.
