Edith Annette Neiman, 85, of Santa Monica, CA, formerly of Sabetha, KS, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2025, at Ocean Breeze Care Home in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, surrounded by her children.
Born on March 19, 1940, on her family's farm south of Oneida, KS, Edie was the daughter of Louise Jeanette King and Otis Kooser, and the granddaughter of Jacob S. and Nora Hamler Anderson. She was proud of her heritage and an offspring of the American Revolution. Her family's roots ran deep in American history, her uncles held patents, her great-great-grand uncle served as governor of Ohio and the Kansas Territory, and her other great-great-grand uncle was the youngest member of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
In 1958, Edie joined United Airlines as a stewardess, flying out of Chicago. Adventurous, independent, and stylish, she embraced the freedom of the skies and developed a love of travel that would stay with her for life. Two years later, she settled in Los Angeles, where she met William L. Neiman of Beverly Hills. They married on November 20, 1963, and made their home in Pacific Palisades, where they raised their three children—Jennifer, Douglas, and Allison over nearly three decades.
As a devoted mother, Edie poured her heart into her family and her community. She volunteered at Berkeley Hall School, at the Christian Science Church, and served for many years as a docent at The Music Center in downtown Los Angeles, where she shared her appreciation for the arts with thousands of visitors. She loved hosting family holidays, cheering her kids on in school and sports, and later, being the fun and loving grandmother who brought everyone together.
Her happiest memories were often tied to places she cherished: family vacations to Maui and Sun Valley, long afternoons at her beloved home on the bluffs of Pacific Palisades, and countless adventures near and far. In 2003, she moved to Santa Monica, where she built a successful career in real estate and continued to embrace new chapters with grace and optimism.
Edie's life was marked by her faith, her deep love for her children and grandchildren, and her zest for discovery. She was witty, spunky, and full of spirit, and she left an impression on everyone she met with her warmth, humor, and spark.
She is survived by her daughter Jennifer and husband Ken Coward, and grandchildren Allison, Cade, and Anna of Rolling Hills Estates, CA; her son Douglas and wife Shannon (Colwell) Neiman, and grandchildren Ciaran and Kellan of Pacific Palisades, CA; her daughter Allison "Alli" DiVincenzo, and grandchildren Capri and Will of Westport, CT; and her brother David Lynn King of Los Angeles, CA.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Santa Monica, CA over Thanksgiving 2025 and a memorial will also take place at Oneida Cemetery in Oneida, KS, on Memorial Day 2026.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Christian Science Church or to the Learning Garden, c/o Venice High School PTSA, 13000 Venice Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90066.
