Edward Frank "Eddie" Benoit, 80, passed away on October 24, 2025, surrounded by family, in Rocky Hill, Connecticut. Born on June 14, 1945, in White Plains, New York, Eddie lived a life marked by kindness, creativity, and unwavering devotion to his family.
A proud Vietnam veteran, Eddie served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. His service reflected the same quiet strength and humility that would define his life in the years to come.
Following his service, he and his beloved wife, Linda Bassett-Benoit, operated the Apple Inn Bed & Breakfast in Port Howe, Nova Scotia, and later Noah's Ark Bed & Breakfast in West Tisbury, Massachusetts. Together they created warm and welcoming spaces that reflected their shared love of people and hospitality.
Eddie's greatest joy and proudest accomplishments were his daughters and grandsons. He is survived by his beloved daughters Juliet Benoit-Talbot and Babette Benoit; cherished grandsons Kelley and Tristan Talbot; and devoted siblings Madeleine Janes (Peter), Evelyn Goodrum (Tom), Jacqueline Muzio (Michael), and John Benoit (Suzanne). He was predeceased by his loving wife Linda and his son-in-law Jonah Talbot.
A man of many talents, Eddie found fulfillment in a wide range of hobbies that showcased both his artistic eye and skilled hands. He had a passion for photography and stained glass work, capturing beauty through both lens and light. His love for gardening brought color to every season, while woodworking allowed him to craft with care and precision. Baking was another of his joys—his kitchen often filled with the comforting aroma of homemade treats.
Eddie had a special gift for seeing the positive in every situation. His unique sense of humor—often expressed through mischievous facial expressions—brought laughter to those around him. A kind, humble, and gentle soul, he found peace in bird watching, music, nature walks, traveling adventures, and the simple magic of fireworks lighting up the sky. Dogs held a special place in Eddie's heart. Rarely seen without a loyal canine companion at his side, he shared an unspoken bond with animals that mirrored the warmth he extended to everyone he met.
Ed's family extends their utmost, heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at the Connecticut Veteran's Home for their devoted care. We also want to give a special thank you to his niece, Kathy Gallagher for her loving support, dedication and personal caregiving during the last few years of his life.
Eddie's playful spirit and loving smile will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know him. May his memory bring comfort to those who carry his love forward.
A graveside military service will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Colonel Raymond F. Gates Memorial Cemetery 393 West St., Rocky Hill.
