Edward James Cano, 57, of Alamogordo, New Mexico, passed away on October 31, 2025. He was born on March 19, 1968, in Anchorage, Alaska.
Edward was a kindhearted man whose faith and love for God guided his life. Exceptionally smart and endlessly curious, he embraced life with a passion for learning. He graduated from Alamogordo Senior High School, earned an associate degree from New Mexico State University, and later completed his studies in Diesel Technology at Western Technical College. Edward also served honorably in the United States Army.
He loved music and played both the clarinet and piano. He found joy in the outdoors—camping, fishing, and swimming—and he was an avid reader who enjoyed playing chess and learning new languages. His gentle spirit, sharp mind, and love for life will be cherished by all who knew him.
Edward is survived by his mother, Geraldine E. Cano; his brother, John Cano, and wife, Colleen Cano; his sisters, Debra Southwick (Cano) and husband, David Southwick, and Tammy Underwood (Cano) and fiancé, Robert Mirabal; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Cano; his grandparents, Edward and Mary Meyer, Juan and Edna Torrez, and Tiodoso Cano.
Services for Edward will be held on November 20th at Our Lady of the Light Catholic Church in La Luz, New Mexico. A Rosary and Mass will begin at 10 a.m., followed by burial at the La Luz Cemetery. After the services, family and friends are invited to gather for a reception celebrating Edward's life at the home of Geraldine Cano and Tammy Underwood, located at 1402 Roosevelt Ave., Alamogordo.
